Before we left the UK to head for our holiday in Dubai, we were keen to make a day trip over to Abu Dhabi to see the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. We booked the trip via the Emirates Airline recommended site, Get Your Guide.
We were so glad we took this daytrip, as the Mosque was absolutely stunningly beautiful! The whole building is made out of marble with every flower that you see on the floors and walls made with inlayed coloured marble. All the carpets were hand-made and the huge lights were spectacular. I hope my photos do it justice!
As I was going to be entering a Mosque, I had to cover my head with a scarf, so after a few attempts, I think I got it right! (I did fully cover my hair when I entered the Mosque)
We also visited the Emirates Palace (now a luxury hotel) - this is where the Royal Family of Abu Dhabi used to live. It was beautiful too and wondered why they left until we saw their new Presidential Palace, Qasr Al Watan!
Our driver also took us to see the F1 Circuit in Yas Marina as he knew we were F1 fans. We were able to drive over the little bridge above the track and around the outskirts and it was quite surreal to see it in person!
On the way back to Dubai, the traffic was very busy as some of the main roads were still flooded, therefore, our driver had to drive through floodwater which was over the wheels of his car - this was quite scary in case the car cut out - but he managed to get past it without incident!
I would totally recommend taking the trip from Dubai to Abu Dhabi as it's only about an hour and half's drive away.
